A cap is a curved panel with a seam
Caps look like a simple flat badge until you account for the crown curve, the seam and the way they're actually decorated.
The panel curves in two directions
The cap front isn't flat — it curves around the head and slopes back from the brim. A wide design bends away at both edges, so type set across the full panel width appears to arc even when the file is perfectly straight. Compact, centred marks avoid the effect.
Six-panel caps have a seam up the middle
The classic six-panel cap has a stitched seam running vertically through the centre front, exactly where a centred logo wants to be. Embroidery crosses it with a visible ridge, and print cracks along it. Five-panel and unstructured caps give you an unbroken front — worth specifying before you design.
Caps are embroidered, and thread has a minimum size
Almost all production caps are embroidered rather than printed. Embroidery can't do gradients, soft shadows or hairlines, and there's a floor on how small legible lettering can be stitched. Get a simplified, stitch-ready version of your mark and ask for a sew-out before committing a run.

Cap mockup questions
Is the hat mockup generator free?
Yes — 1200px PNGs for each cap and a .zip of all six, with no watermark, no account and no email step. HD at 2048px is a one-time unlock, not a subscription.
Why does type look curved on a real cap?
Because the front panel curves around the head and slopes back from the brim. Straight type set across the full width bends away at both ends. Keeping the mark compact and centred, or arcing the type deliberately, is how brands work with the curve instead of against it.
Will a centre seam split my logo?
On a six-panel cap, potentially yes — it runs vertically through the middle of the front, right where a centred logo sits. Embroidery crosses it with a visible ridge. If your mark has a fine central element, specify a five-panel or unstructured cap instead.
Can caps be printed rather than embroidered?
Some can, but embroidery is the norm and it changes the artwork. Thread has a minimum width, so gradients, soft shadows and hairline detail don't survive, and small lettering has a legibility floor. Ask your decorator for a sew-out before you approve a run.
Can I use these cap mockups commercially?
